Give each car one number

Zero to 10, how much you like the way it looks. Nothing to weigh up, no aspects to break down — style is the one pillar that is pure preference. Every car starts at 5, which is not a verdict: it is the only honest thing to say about a car nobody has looked at yet. Until you mark one, style is not choosing between them.

One score for chooses which answer the next press writes — the whole model, one model year, or one trim. It is not a filter: the narrowest answer you have given always wins, because it is the more specific one, and switching this control never changes that. Press the number a row already shows to take that answer back.

Because the narrower answer wins, answering at a wider level on top of one would write a number that does nothing. So it asks first: press a model number over trim or year answers and it says how many it would replace, and nothing changes until you accept. Taking an answer back never asks.

The number feeds the Style slider on the ranking page, and otherwise only a zero does anything — that removes the car. Anything you leave alone keeps the seeded value it arrived with where the library published one, so a half-finished pass still ranks; it just ranks on somebody else’s taste until you replace it.
